Soft tissue instrument · Body Tempering USA
Controlled pressure.
Measured contours.
Built for clinical use.
The Iron Pillow is a ~22 lb steel roller with machined aluminum handles. Radius curves were chosen by measuring the body so contact fits smaller muscle groups and a broader, everyday population — not only large athletes. Use it in clinician-guided or partner-assisted sessions for loaded, controlled soft tissue work. The name comes from resting it behind the neck like a pillow; in that position it can provide gentle cervical traction-style support.

Why this build
Surface area. Pressure. Control.
Three things shape how loaded soft tissue work feels: how much tissue the contact covers, how much pressure you can apply, and how comfortably the person applying the load can guide the instrument. The Iron Pillow was machined around those priorities — measured body radii, steel mass for steady load, and aluminum handles for secure two-handed control.
- Sized for smaller groups A practical scale for arms, lower legs, shoulders, neck, and other areas that fit a broader mainstream population — not only large athletes.
- Measured radius curves Contours taken from body measurements so contact follows tissue instead of bridging over it.
- Steady steel load The roller’s mass supplies consistent pressure; the clinician or partner supplies placement and pace.
- Aluminum handles Machined, knurled grips for secure control without unnecessary bulk on the hands.
How it works
Place. Load. Move slowly.
Work with the Iron Pillow is about controlled, loaded pressure — not forcing through discomfort. Partner-assisted and clinician-guided use is typical. Start conservatively, monitor tissue response, and stay within what the area can tolerate. Behind the neck, many people rest it like a pillow for gentle cervical traction-style support — use clinical judgment for that position as you would for any loaded application.
-
Set the position
Client or partner lies prone or supine on a mat or table. Place the contoured roller on the target area (e.g. forearm, calf, shoulder, hip, or behind the neck when appropriate).
-
Add controlled load
Use the aluminum handles to guide the instrument. The steel roller provides the mass; the clinician or partner provides placement and pace.
-
Roll or hold
Slow passes or short holds. Adjust angle with the hourglass shape to follow the line of tissue you intend to work.
-
Stay within tolerance
This is substantial load. Use professional judgment: avoid bony landmarks, acute injury, and any application that feels inappropriate.
Not a medical device. The Iron Pillow is a physical instrument for loaded-pressure and body-tempering-style soft tissue work. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. This page is not medical advice. If you have a medical condition, injury, or are unsure whether deep pressure work is appropriate, consult a qualified clinician first.

FAQ
Common questions
Who is this for?
Massage therapists, physical therapists, and IASTM / instrument-assisted soft tissue professionals who want a durable instrument for controlled, loaded pressure work. It is also used in partner-assisted and clinician-guided body tempering. It is not a medical device and is not a substitute for professional clinical judgment.
Why is it called the Iron Pillow?
From resting the roller behind the neck like a pillow. In that position it can provide gentle cervical traction-style support. As with any loaded application, use clinical judgment and stay within what is appropriate for the person and the tissue.
Why this size?
About 22 lb with a contact surface designed for smaller muscle groups and a broader mainstream population. Radius curves were chosen by measuring parts of the body so the instrument seats into tissue rather than bridging over it.
What’s included?
One Iron Pillow instrument, packed and shipped in a USPS medium flat-rate box (U.S. orders). International packing is the same format when Endicia shipping is quoted.
Where do you ship?
United States: $315 includes USPS medium flat-rate shipping. International: we accept orders when Endicia can provide a shipping quote; you pay $315 plus that shipping charge.
How heavy is it?
About 22 pounds for the tool itself (~24 lb packed shipping weight). That mass is the working load of the steel roller; handles are machined aluminum.
How does it fit with hands-on and IASTM work?
It is complementary to hands-on and IASTM techniques — an instrument that supplies consistent mass for loaded, controlled pressure (body-tempering style), guided by the clinician or partner.
Do I need a partner or a second person?
Partner-assisted and clinician-guided use is typical and often more controlled. Some self-application is possible depending on the area and setup (including resting it behind the neck). Use professional judgment and start conservatively.
